Monarch Tagging

Would you like to learn more about Monarch Butterflies? This is the perfect opportunity to do so. Scientist are trying to understand Monarch migration. To do so they are looking to citizen scientists to help tag Monarch Butterflies. Why do they want to tag monarchs? Tagging helps answer questions about the origins of monarchs that reach Mexico, the timing and pace of the migration, mortality during the migration, and changes in geographic distribution. It also shows that the probability of reaching Mexico is related to geographic location, size of the butterfly, and the date (particularly as this relates to the migration window for a given location).

During this program you will help with monarch research by learning to catch, tag, record, and release monarchs before they start their 2,000-mile migration.

Note:

-Follow the park road until it dead ends into the lower parking lot. Meet your naturalist there.
